Originally announced as Torchlight Frontiers, a free-to-play MMO-like, developer Echtra Games pivoted in January 2020 after alpha feedback. They rebranded to Torchlight III, dropped F2P for premium pricing, and returned to the linear Act structure. It launched October 2020 to mixed or average reviews.
